Terminal Montage Parodies: Pokemon Battle Royale, Legends Arceus, Mystery Dungeon (Adobe Animate)

I'm a Digital artist/Animator for the Terminal Montage Youtube channel.
We are a two person team and we release a 7 minute long animation every 1.5 months!
We achieve this by maintaining a simple art style, working smarter not harder by taking shortcuts wherever we can (reusing/editing assets), and we put our effort into areas that make the most impact in our cartoons.

Jeremey is an animation powerhouse all by himself, but he brought me onboard to speed up the process and appease the hungry Youtube Algorithm! With my 20+ years of experience in Adobe Animate, I can visually create anything he needs for his cartoons and take part in any step of the production! I take on many roles: Digital inking and coloring, storyboards, special effects, backgrounds, and compositing!

Here are some of my contributions to the "Pokemon Battle Royale" and "Something About" series!

Jeremey's animatic made in Adobe Animate! This is what I receive before I work on it.

My rendition of the scene after I color and shade the characters! I added the backgrounds, glows, filters, gradients, texture to the grass, and the big vortex!

Here's Jeremey's animatic for the final battle in Paradox Pokemon Battle Royale before. This is what I receive before I do any work on it!

My rendition of the battle! I contribute backgrounds, coloring, compositing, and special effects! Notable Effects: Miraidon charging, Iron Bundle's snow fx, field damage, filters/glows, transitions. Jeremey did outlines and coloring of the characters!

2024. Here's the video in its entirety. My role: Backgrounds, digital inking and coloring, special effects. We are a 2 person animation team and make 1 video per 1.5 months, each about 7 minutes long!

A screenshot of Jeremey's Animatic. This is what the Arena looked like before I fleshed it out. Jeremey animated the water and lightning! He gives direction via text in-file and provides references. We work separately/remotely and share ideas on Discord.

My rendition of the Background. I added the giant Tera Crystal! We wanted the sphere to "glow" from beneath the arena and change colors to compliment elements used in the battle! I made it visible by adding a transparent gradient every frame of the water!

I changed the palette of the arena to yellow to compliment the electricity! I animated the glows, changed gradients, and even modified all the reflections in the water. Even though the shot looks simple, it's a lot of work to edit every single object!

For this shot, I changed the palette to a cool blue. I added a gradient to create some atmospheric depth and make the scenes feel chilly! I was very pleased with how it turned out.

On the final shot, I made purple the dominant color and added broken glass to look like dead trees! I add little details like this to compliment the battle!

I'm particularly proud of an effect I included to this scene. This shot was jarring because it cuts to itself to reveal Miraidon is gone! For visual clarity, I added a small but visually helpful detail- a shine spark!

The animated spark is there to keep the viewers eye focused on the area where Iron Bundle will appear! It's hardly noticeable while watching- but your brain will register it without realizing it! It helps the shot transition into itself!

Jeremey has really strong compositions and I like to add to them. I hid Scream Tail from Iron Valiant with a little gradient.

For this shot, I recreated the punch animation/effect from Hajime No Ippo (Takamura Vs David Eagle fight). It involved lots of layers and transparent gusts of air to communicate the intense impact of the punch!

My background for the final shot of Professor Oak's lab. For night skies, I like adding blobs of color and blurring them to give the sky some texture and cosmic energy.

2021. Mega Battle Royale was my first Pokemon Project with Terminal Montage. My role: Backgrounds, digital inking and coloring, special effects.

I added effects like this colorful "gem" overlay when a crystal bursts out of Steelix! I make good use of Animate's filters and blending modes.

I like to progressively destroy environments throughout the animation. Here's a shot of the ocean before it gets blasted by Sceptile!

Here's a standard background. Green grass, blue sky. Nothing too special. I'll still add details like gradients and glows wherever necessary or if it helps guide the eyes where it needs to focus.

2022. Another Battle Royale video I was a part of! This one is my favorite of all the Battle Royale animations! My role: Backgrounds, digital inking, coloring, and special effects.

I colored a lot of characters. It took a long time because all the outlines had a reddish/brown gradient that needed to be applied by-hand.

I added a texture to the ocean, similar to "Zelda: The Wind Waker"-- and a baby blue glow which helped give some atmospheric depth to this scene! It looked nice with the pink sky!

This animation was very filter-heavy and some effects had to get baked into BMP's to help Adobe Animate render properly. The windows glow, charizards flames glow, and the sky has blurs. So many effects in one shot!

Another space background. I added sparkles, stars, and put a gradient over them to keep the focus on Charizard entering the portal!

I animated the aurora borealis and changed the color of this sequence to blue, to compliment Lapras. This involved editing a lot of existing assets and creating new ones! These buildings are different than the ones in earlier shots- and they're damaged!

Changing color palettes on existing assets can breathe new life into them. Reusing background elements like scrolling floors is my favorite way to work smarter not harder!

By the end of the cartoon, everything is damaged! So many buildings were drawn! I add scratches, debris, and other details to enhance what's happening. Here comes the ICE AGE!

Even the most mundane backgrounds take a lot of work! I made the river glow, added gradients to the trees, layered two different sets of bushes, some mountains, and gradient to the sky for some depth!

There's several particles on different layers panning at different speeds to give a sense of depth as Kartana flies across the sky. I also used spherical gradients to make the bubbles! All this ON TOP of a regular scrolling background.

Sometimes it's great to keep things simple with some glows and subtle tweens. The background is just a gradient I threw together with some action lines- but the shot is still very energetic!

I made the effort to give portions of the animation their own color palettes. When the island was flooded, a lot of Pokemon were K.O'd and absorbed by Hisuian Typhlosion. So I made this shot purple to compliment the ghostly whisps!

After the forest is extinguished, Instead of coloring everything a charred gray, I kept things interesting by adding little singed tips to the trees and orange smoke reflecting the embers.

When Swampert comes in and uses Muddy Water/Mud Shot I added trees in the mud that littered the landscape. The trees helped break the horizon line in future shots! It's fun "destroying" the landscape in new ways!

Lapis cave! I was able to make objects stand out thanks to my understanding of value. Saturation and hue shifts play a huge role in being able to make objects readable even though they're all different variations of blue!

I had fun designing the Slowking logo in the background of this stinky fast food restaurant. (It's a Shelder and Slowpoke tail! They become Slowking/Slowbro when combined!) I made some good choices here with desaturated colors to show how Marill feels.
